Hard concrete that's gentle on the environment.

At Stelcon, we understand the importance of sustainability and water management. Our concrete plates are not only designed to be long-lasting, but also to ensure effective water infiltration. Discover how our products help to create a greener, more sustainable future.

Our plates are helping to make paving more sustainable

    Water management

At Stelcon, we optimise our water consumption and keep pollution to a minimum. Our facilities use water recycling systems and we capture rainwater to use in our production processes. That way, we help conserve water supplies and encourage sustainability.

    Circularity

Circularity is essential for Stelcon. We extend the service-life of our products and minimise waste by means of modular design and by using sustainable, recyclable materials. Our products support a circular economy and reduce the pressure on natural resources.

How we are helping to build the future at Stelcon

Stelcon has a heart for the planet. We are doing everything we can to minimise and ultimately neutralise our ecological footprint. This ranges from the transition to clean energy and new ways to reduce our consumption to maintaining an optimal water balance and encouraging climate-based initiatives and biodiversity.

    Rainwater storage

We reuse rainwater as much as we can. We currently collect up to 120,000 litres of rainwater in order to optimise our business processes. Thanks to a new underground rainwater buffer tank, that volume will increase to 1,000,000 litres in the future.

    Natural drainage

To avoid flooding, we have constructed central infiltrating buffer trenches. These allow rainwater to gradually drain away and infiltrate. In addition, precast Stelcon concrete floor plates are placed with a spacing on a draining bed of sand so that water naturally infiltrates that way too.

    Solar energy

On our roof, we have installed 720 solar panels with a peak capacity of 266 kW and 277 solar panels with a peak capacity of 177 kW.

    Battery storage

We are planning to install a mega battery. This will allow us to optimise our use of self-generated green electricity.

    A green working environment

We allow nature to flourish. Both inside and outside. Industrial and residential zones are separated via a green buffer of about 1,500 m². Our offices will soon have a green wall. After optimising heat and sound insulation, our building will be topped with a 250 m² green roof.

    Large hydrocarbon seperator

A hydrocarbon separator prevents the release of hydrocarbons and sludge in wastewater. By building a new, larger hydrocarbon separator with a coalescence filter and a bolted-on sludge trap, we are making that process even more efficient.

    Electrification

A major investment programme is currently under way for the thorough electrification of our buildings and our vehicle fleet. This ranges from using LED lighting and electric suction cups only to installing charging stations for electric cars, forklifts and bicycles.

    Energy management system

We optimise our energy consumption using a modular management system. Based on real-time data and reporting, it is possible to monitor energy flows and control them intelligently. In this way, we can maximise our use of self-generated electricity and reduce our CO2 emissions even further.

    Company forest

Deforestation remains one of the biggest threats to our planet. Natural solutions are crucial when it comes to meeting global climate objectives. By 2024, Flanders plans to create 4,000 hectares of additional forest for the purpose of CO2 offsetting. We are committed to acquiring a company forest of our own.
